Dorset Reading Partners is a registered charity (no. 1116404)
What sort of people are we looking for?
No formal qualifications are required, but we are looking for people with good literacy skills, a confident manner, an empathy with children and a strong desire to help young people achieve their full potential. All applicants must be able to provide two references and undergo an enhanced Criminal Records Bureau disclosure check.
What is the time commitment?
Around three to four hours a week during term time. Reading partners generally visit school once or twice a week, for three half-hourly sessions each time. Our volunteers must be relied upon to attend regularly, and we ask that you consider a commitment of at least one year.
What support & training do volunteers receive?
All reading partners attend initial training over two days to prepare them for their role. We provide all resources and offer full support to volunteers once they are in school. There are regular opportunities to attend ongoing training, and every term there are meetings where they can change resources and share ideas with other volunteers. Reading partners can claim travel expenses to all our meetings and training sessions.
